Hi 2nd Grade LUSC Families,
As we are in the last season of Diamond soccer, I wanted to send a note out in preparation of some changes to our 3rd grade soccer program. Over the winter, LUSC conducted a survey to determine interest in starting travel soccer in the fall of 3rd grade. Historically, LUSC has offered an in-town program to everyone in 3rd grade, and then the option to play in-town or travel soccer for 4th grade, before moving to all travel soccer for 5-8th grades. However, we have noticed a trend over recent years where fewer families have been registering for in-town soccer and more families have been choosing travel.
Our survey results (with 54 families responding- thank you!) showed an almost perfect split: 51/49 for travel vs in town, so this fall we are going to offer both in-town and travel soccer options for all 3rd graders. Both programs will play 7v7 soccer, with two practices a week and games on Saturdays. The in-town program will play all their games in Lexington, with mixed teams of balanced skills. The travel teams will be made based on evaluations as scored by professional evaluators, and will be level-based. The travel teams will play in the BAYS (Boston Area Youth Soccer) league against teams in surrounding towns. BAYS sets the schedule of games and locations, half of the games for travel teams will be played in Lexington. BAYS offers a wide range of levels of teams, from players newer to soccer and recreational teams to very competitive skilled teams.
In-town program: Registration will open on May 10 and will close in August. Teams will combine 3rd and 4th graders, and teams will be balanced and we will accept friend requests. Colored T-shirts based on team assignment will be provided by LUSC as part of the registration fee. Players must purchase a practice pinnie before the season starts through our Tricon store. Additional details about the program can be found here: https://lexingtonunited.org/3rd-4th-grade-in-town-league/
Travel program: Registration will open on May 10 and close on June 20th (travel teams rosters must be submitted to BAYS to create the schedule, so travel soccer closes much earlier than town). Uniforms can be purchased at the time of registration through the LUSC Tricon store. LUSC has designed a special lower-cost uniform option for 3rd graders since it will be their first year trying travel. Teams will be made based on skill and interest level, as assessed at our evaluation session on Sunday, June 7th, at 1pm for girls and 2:30pm for boys. Your player should plan to attend evaluations in order to be placed on the correct team. Additional details can be found here: https://lexingtonunited.org/3rd4th-8th-grade-travel-club/
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Hannah Mamuszka
