LUSC Fall Coaches Meeting & Courses – Wednesday 8/28, Saturday 8/31 and Saturday 9/7
Hi Coaches,
It’s amazing that another season is around the corner, but that’s the reality. First and foremost, thank you for volunteering to coach a team this Fall. The service that you, and the other coaches, provide LUSC with is so important for the success of our program. I wanted to make you aware of the upcoming LUSC Coaches Meeting (new location!), announce our Model Coaching Clinics Schedule, and an “Introduction to Coaching” Course I will be teaching.
- Wednesday 8/28 – Coach’s Meeting
- Saturday 8/31 – Model Coaching Clinic
- Saturday 9/7 – “An Introduction to Coaching Course
All coaches should plan to attend the Coaches Meeting.. This season’s rotating topic I’ll cover will be choosing a system of play and sampling various game day formations. We’ll also go over navigating the new MYSA coach onboarding process so coaches can be cleared in time for the start of the season, and hand out your equipment & uniforms.
Wednesday 8/28 Coach’s Meeting, Lexington Community Center, Room 139
6:00 to 7:00pm- In-town K through 2nd grade.
7:00 to 7:30pm- Social* (for both in town and Travel coaches)
7:30 to 8:45pm- All Travel & U9-10 In-town Coaches Meeting

- LUSC Coaching Philosophy
- Choosing a System of Play/Game day formations
- coach onboarding
- fall field availability
- equipment needs and pickup
- referee matters
- LUSC program offerings
Saturday 8/31 Model Coaching Clinic Schedule, 9am,Lincoln Field #2:
These clinics are free for all LUSC Coaches and don’t require any pre-registration. The clinics will be geared toward coaching 3rd grade and above. The goal of these sessions is to demonstrate a variety of coaching techniques and approaches, so that coaches can observe the structure and sequence of activities of a full practice session from start to finish.
9:00am to 10:00am: Effective Practice Exercises with limited space
10:00am to 11:00am: 5 Favorite Games
11:00am to 11:45am: Coaches Technical Skills Session (Final 15 Minutes Dedicated to Teaching Heading for age appropriate coaches)
11:45am to 12:00pm: Q&A
Saturday 9/7 “An Introduction to Coaching Course”, 1pm-4pm, Fiske Elementary:
Volunteer coaching is the lifeblood of Lexington United Soccer Club. If you are a new coach, or if you ever thought about becoming a coach, then come join me at for a course I specifically designed to enhance a coaches comfort level and enjoyment while coaching soccer in Lexington.
The course will be split between classroom and gymnasium and cover:
- Why Kids Play
- How Kids Learn
- Age Appropriate Training
- Economical Training
- How to Build a Practice Plan
- Club Philosophy “A Player Centered Approach”
- Communication with Players
- Communication with Parents
There is no cost for attending the course, but pre-registration is requested.
