We need referees. We need to take care of them. What would we do without them?
This weekend, May 17th & 18th, have been designated as BAYS Spring 2025 Referee Appreciation Days. Lexington United Soccer Club fully supports this part of the BAYS RESPECT Campaign, and we encourage all participants to recognize the contributions referees make to all youth sports.
Referees are essential to the game we all love, and it’s time to show them how much they mean to us. They dedicate countless hours to training, officiating in all types of weather, and often go unrecognized, even when they’re doing a fantastic job. Without referees, organized soccer wouldn’t be possible, and we owe them our gratitude for their tireless commitment.
Here are a few simple but meaningful ways to show your appreciation:
- Thank the referee at the end of the game. Sometimes a sincere “thank you” goes a long way!
- Create a thank-you card from your team signed by the coaches, players and parents.
- Bring a small snack (Munchkins, hot cocoa, pizza, etc.) to share with referees at the field.
- Offer a small gift card to a local spot to brighten their day.
- Make a “Thank you Referees” banner to display during the game.
Please send pictures for social media and tell us what you did to ref-assignor@lexingtonunited.org.
Thank you for helping us recognize the amazing referees who keep the games going each week. Your support makes all the difference.
